The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, and the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngale Bibehe, have inspected the airfield of the Garoua International Airport, May 8, 2025, to inspect ongoing rehabilitation works ahead of the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. Both Ministers met with technicians of the SOTCOCOG S.A construction and assured that the rehabilitation would be completed before May 22nd, 2025. The work would be done in 14 days and should end 7 days before the official start of the Hajj. Also present were the Director Generals of the Airport Development Corporation (ADC), and the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure that the work is done with respect to international norms.Accompanying the Minister were the Governor of the North Region, Jean Abate Edi’i and other administrative authorities. During the working visit of MINAT and MINT the Imams of Garoua and Sabongari, prayed for President Paul Biya and the people of Cameroon.The working session continued in camera with an evaluation of the airfield. Prior to that, Minister Atanga Ni condemned fake news that the Garoua International Airport would be closed and all pilgrims from the Northern Regions would travel through Douala. The Minister said all protocol would be respected for pilgrims to travel through the same Airport, assuring that the Head of State already disbursed finance for the purpose.In complement to this, the Minister of Transport said the rehabilitation would be done in strict security, adding that government is doing it as an act of solidarity regarding the spiritual importance of Hajj.
